Join Frank Peele to create amazing images with water and simple objects. We'll do droplets, crash wine glasses together, plop things into liquids, and enjoy the ever-fascinating coffee cup challenge.

What to bring

  • Camera with charged battery + spare battery
  • Memory card(s) for at least 400 images
  • Lens in the range of normal to moderate telephoto, 50 mm to 100 mm (or 35 mm equivalent for crop-frame camera), prime or zoom with at least that focal length range
  • Macro lens if you have it.
  • Lens hoods and protective filters such as UV to keep drops and splashes off lens front elements
  • Tripod, quick-release adapters if needed
  • Remote camera trigger, wired or wireless
  • If camera has non-standard hotshoe or flash sync connector, you’ll need an adapter to convert to standard hotshoe or PC terminal
  • One or more objects to drop into water (dice, small fruit or veggie, goldfish etc.)
  • Clothes you won’t mind getting wet (possibly with colored dye)
  • Comfortable shoes for wet, slippery surfaces
  • At least one old bath towel – things tend to get wet and messy

About Frank Peele

Frank has a passion for photography that began before he was a teenager – and it’s stronger today than ever. Following a 30-year career in the U. S. Navy as a photographer and photographic officer, he established a practice in commercial and fine-art photography in Redlands. He became active in the Inland Empire Professional Photographers and Videographers (IEPPV), where he is a Past President and Honorary Life Member, and in Professional Photographers of California where he is a Qualified Competition Judge and Judging Panel Moderator. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in motion picture production and film education from the University of Southern California. He is a PPA Certified Professional Photographer who in 2013 was inducted into the PPC Hall of Fame, and the same year also became the first inductee into the IEPPV Hall of Fame. Frank believes that one of the great creative opportunities in photography is to use macro techniques to get close to subjects of many kinds, revealing beauty that is not always obvious to the unaided eye.
